Meet Hubertha
A life poured out in service. A calling sustained by faith.
or more than 40 years, Hubertha has walked the dusty roads, mountain paths, and crowded neighborhoods of Peru with one purpose: to love those who are overlooked and to share the hope of Christ wherever God opens the door.
She has never waited for perfect conditions.
When she sees a need, she takes action.
A Lifetime of Quiet, Steady Faithfulness
As a young mother, Hubertha welcomed missionaries into her home, feeding and supporting them so they could continue their ministry. Soon after, she began gathering women and children in neighborhoods where no church existed, opening her Bible at kitchen tables, under trees, and in unfinished concrete rooms.
These small gatherings grew into women’s discipleship programs, children’s Bible studies, and eventually home churches.
Over the years, God used her to start five ministry projects in different regions of Peru.
Every one of those projects later became part of a local, thriving church.
Where there was no church, God planted one.
Where there was no fellowship, God grew one.
Where there was need, Hubertha came with open hands and faith.
Feeding the Hungry in Huaycán
In Huaycán, one of Lima’s poorest communities, families struggled daily to find enough food.
Seeing mothers skip meals so their children could eat, Hubertha launched a “Comedor Popular” community kitchen program that provided warm meals to over 100 families.
She did not fundraise.
She did not campaign.
She worked, prayed, gathered volunteers, and trusted God.
For forty years, she self-supported her ministry.
She never asked for money.
She asked for hearts willing to serve.
Now, She Is Answering One Final Call
Today, as a widow, the road is different.
Her heart is still willing, her calling still clear, but her strength is not what it once was.
Yet God has placed a new and urgent mission before her: to care for elderly men and women who are living their last years entirely alone.
Many of these elders:
Have no family to look after them
Struggle with no income and failing health
Live for months without a single visitor
Have never had someone share the hope of the Gospel with them
Hubertha knows the need is greater than she can meet on her own.
This time, she is asking others to join her.
Not because her faith has changed, but because the calling has grown larger than one set of hands can carry.
Why Hope-Peru Exists
Hope-Peru is the first ministry in her life where she is inviting others to join her financially.
Not because her faith has changed.
But because the challenge is bigger than ever.
She is asking believers to help carry the work forward — not for her sake, but for those who still need the love of Christ before they leave this world.
“God has been faithful to me all my life. He is faithful still. And now, I ask others to walk with me. There are elders waiting to hear that they are loved.”
